HELLO THERE!

Thanks for checking out my blog. I hope you enjoy what you read and I hope you’ll come back often!

A little about me:  My name is Jen and I am a new resident of Austin, Texas by way of Denver and Seattle. I am California born, but predominantly grew up in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. I figured what better way to document this crazy life change than to blog about all the fun adventures, new experiences, and interesting people who cross my path. I also figured this was a perfect venue to keep in touch with all the people in this world who do in fact make up MY world. Through some additional nudging from fellow friends who also blog thatswhatjensaid.com was born!

I can’t say for certain how I ended up here, but I consider myself fortunate to have parlayed a passion for music into what I do for a  living. I have worked in radio and records for over a decade now, and love every second of it! When I’m not busy persuading programmers to play my next big record, or begging an artist to sign one more glossy I’m just an average, single, thirty-something gal looking to stir up a little trouble and have nothing but fun! I’m sarcastic in nature, so please read my writing with that in mind. My sarcasm however is tempered with what I believe to be a damn good sense of humor and fun loving wit. In addition to loving all things music, I’m super passionate about cooking, baking and the culinary arts. I grew up with parents in the food/restaurant industry and became pretty particular at a young age. While my friends like to call me “Martha” I prefer to not associate myself with that phony jailbird bitch. Granted I will admit to being crafty much like her, I aspire to be as culinarily gifted as The Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten). I’m basically a self-proclaimed foodie, solo-dwelling, meal-cooking, wine/vodka drinking,  travelin’ music junkie. In addition to just sharing random things I find interesting, I will document all my crazy fortuities in the music business, brushes with celebrity types, the delicious restaurants I discover, as well as all the ”to die for” recipes I conquer in my own kitchen. From the candlelit corner of an obscure bistro to the bright lights that shine center-stage, I hope my ramblings stimulate your senses!

OTHER RANDOM FACTS: In the little spare time left, I volunteer as an advisor for a high school youth leadership organization. It’s one of my most favorite things I do as I genuinely believe teens today need positive role models and mentors they can rely on. While I realize I’m so very lucky to have parents who are still married to this day, unfortunately that is not the reality most families and teens face in their own lives. If I can make a difference in one kid’s life, I feel as if it is time well spent. I believe in the philosophy of paying it forward, and this is my way of doing so.

I graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelors degree in Communication/Advertising and a minor in Business. GO DUCKS! Although I spent most of my life on the west coast, the rest of my family are from the east. My father is a MASShole and my mother comes from the City of Brotherly Love. For this reason, and because Portland really has no real major league teams to speak of, I am a die hard New England sports fan! You heard me…RED SOX, CELTICS, PATRIOTS and BRUINS! While I’ll go to just about any sporting event in any city just because, I’ll never route for the home team if they are playing MY teams! Sorry…I’m loyal!

WORDS THAT DESCRIBE ME: honest, intelligent, fun, generous, independent, self-sufficient, successful, ambitious, empowered, artistic, creative, caring, selfless, sarcastic, witty, goofy, fun, happy-go-lucky, thoughtful, introspective, outgoing, inspired, articulate, sassy, patient, confident, humble, loyal, savvy, hip, optimistic, driven, sensitive, kind and nerdy!

MY FAVORITE THINGS: my family, my best friends, my cat named Chloe (with 6 toes), music, live shows, radio, record stores, cooking, baking, traveling, vacations, road trips, sunshine, sand, palm trees, red wine, vodka, chuck taylors, shopping, fashion, pop culture, barbeques, dog parks, hiking, animals, children, laughter, magazines, gabbing, dining, movies, decorating, painting, scrap booking, crafts, flowers, farmers markets, photographs, practical jokes, pubs, singing at the top of my lungs while alone in my car, pedicures, massages, manicures, my blackberry, facebook, twitter, blogging, organizing, to-do lists, the smell of rain, campfires, the ocean, sushi, sunday fundays, dive bars, ethnic food, Wii, my iPod, cookbooks, thunder, fluffernutters, hoodies, flirting, sending cards, horoscopes and OH SO MUCH MORE!
